Top 6 Phuket Golf Courses for Golf Lovers [2023 Edition]

Phuket is applauded worldwide for its extraordinary beaches, lush tropical, hilly interior, diverse activities and entertainment, and delicious cuisine. The island's picturesque landscape and world-class golf courses make it a golf lover's dream.

This guide details six fantastic golf courses in Phuket, listed from north to south. Golfers living in Phuket find golf rewarding and excellent for networking, while those with kids enjoy it as a family activity.

If you are moving to Phuket, you, too, may find these courses highly appealing. Amateur to professional golfers enjoy well-designed courses with a good mix of holes; quality greens, fairways, and bunkers; stunning scenery; excellent clubhouse facilities with caddy and cart services; and friendly welcoming service.

Blue Canyon Country ClubThis award-winning golf course features two 18-hole courses, becoming famous when the Canyon Course was selected for the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1994, 1998 and 2007, and still, the only club to achieve this.

Renowned Japanese golf architect Yoshikazu Kato developed the site, an abandoned tin mine bordered by rubber plantations. The course was created around the existing landscape and canyons, minimising the impact on natural flora and fauna. The result is a challenging course for golfers at all levels, as it presents daunting hazards, including several water features and tall trees.

The Lakes Course opened in 1999, is a challenging 7,129 yards with a 270-yard target driving distance. The Canyon Course opened in 1991, is currently under renovation and is due for completion in November 2023.

Location: Mai Khao is close to the Phuket International Airport in the Thalang district, making it an excellent destination for 'fly-in-fly-out' golfers.

Mission Hills Phuket Golf ResortThis championship world-class 18-hole course was created by Nicklaus Design and is a golfer's dream. It's the only Phuket golf course right beside the sea. It is picture-perfect, with white sand bunkers contrasting verdant fairways, greens, and turquoise waters as a backdrop.

Water comes into play on seven holes, and the sea breeze can sometimes cause havoc. The clubhouse facilities are magnificent.

Location: On the northeast coast, Thalang District.

Laguna Golf PhuketFormerly known as Banyan Tree Golf Club, this resort-style 18-hole, par-71 course, set within the Laguna Phuket development, is a fully integrated destination resort with eight top-notch hotels and holiday and residential properties.

The 6,756-yard course presents rolling fairways, picturesque lagoons and fast greens. Redesigned in 2014 to world-class standards, the layout demands precision rather than firepower, presenting a challenge for various skill levels.

Location: Choeng Thale in Thalang district is a particularly popular area for retirees moving to Thailand.

    Loch Palm Golf Club
Opened in 1996, this beautiful course, by prominent Thai designer Dr Sukitti Klangwisai, is set around Crystal Lake, the largest waterway on any of Phuket's courses.

The 72-par course is popular with Thai golfers and one of the most enjoyable. Many enjoy walking the course with its parkland layout, offering a medium level of difficulty, including more than 1,400 towering palms lining the fairways.

Location: In Kathu district, a 15-minute drive from Patong, beside Red Mountain Golf Club.

Red Mountain Golf ClubOften voted Thailand's best course and Phuket's most challenging, Jon Morrow and Al Tikkanen designed this 72-par, 6,781-yard course.

The character and terrain were exploited in a former tin mining site, resulting in a course with spectacular landforms, dramatic red cliffs, water hazards created from mining pits, and a stunning landscape of tropical trees and shrubs attracting wildlife. The highest point on the 16th hole affords magnificent Phuket City and Big Buddha views.

Location: A 15-minute drive from Patong.

Phuket Country ClubThe tin mining industry in Phuket died out in the 1980s, with many sites being redeveloped into resorts, housing, and, so it seems, golf courses. Phuket Country Club was the first to use reclaimed land in Phuket and was established in 1989.

Consisting of two courses, the 18-hole is over 6,483 yards, and the 9-hole Country Club course was designed for low handicappers. One of the best courses in Phuket, it has hosted many prestigious events, including the Toyota Senior Championship in 2022.

Location: In Kathu district, approximately halfway between Phuket Town and Patong.

Are you evaluating living in Thailand? Phuket is one of several popular locations for expats in Thailand. Unlike some countries, foreigners can buy property in Thailand, and combined with an economical cost of living, various Visa options and a laid-back lifestyle make it a popular choice for working people, retirees, digital nomads, and long-stay visitors.
