The White Lotus Effect: How a Hit TV Show Is Inspiring a Real Estate Dream in Thailand

With Season 3 filmed across Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Phangan and Bangkok, viewers around the world are now daydreaming of opulent resorts, beachfront villas, exotic tropical gardens, poolside cocktails and sunset dinners wrapped in the warmth and magnetism of Thai culture and hospitality.

White Lotus Buzz: A Tourism Surge in the Making

Even before the show's 2025 release, curiosity and investment had already been ignited in these lush island destinations. According to Trip.com data cited by The Nation, flight and hotel bookings on Samui are up by almost 30% compared to last year. According to another online agency, British travellers are driving demand, with searches for Thailand up 53% year-on-year. Samui topped the list with an 88% jump in searches, while Phuket and Bangkok also saw search volumes jump by over 60%. (Bangkok Post).

Resorts, especially on Samui, have reported significant increases in bookings. Minor Hotels, owner of Anantara Bophut, Anantara Lawana and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket, all featured in the series, reported a website traffic rise of 104% year-on-year and a 41% spike in direct bookings in February. The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, which serves as The White Lotus Resort & Spa, has also experienced a substantial surge in online interest and reservations.

Luxury Property Interest Heats Up

The influence of The White Lotus has added a layer of allure to properties in Samui, Phuket, and Koh Phangan. Showcasing Thailand's idyllic beaches and lavish lifestyles has amplified global interest in tropical island real estate, positioning them as premier destinations for upscale investment.

In their Koh Samui Residential Report 2024* (March 2025), a leading real estate source highlighted a significant surge in the island's luxury property market. With 600 new condos and 80 villas expected in 2025, the forecast is for steady growth. Notably, more than 90% of demand stems from international buyers, particularly Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Prime locations such as Lamai Beach, Chaweng, Bophut and Mae Nam are experiencing heightened interest, with Lamai leading villa sales at a nearly 80% take-up rate.

According to the same source, in Phuket, the property market witnessed a record-high supply in 2024, with 14,718 new condominiums launched, bringing the inventory to over 37,000 units. By year-end, 63.64% had been absorbed, indicating robust demand. Luxury villas also saw increased interest, accounting for 18% of total property sales. Although other factors have impacted Phuket's growth, The White Lotus effect adds to the shine.

Step into the Scene: Live The White Lotus Lifestyle

Buyers inspired by the show's sumptuous settings and dramatic sea views can discover exclusive villas featured on the screen. Samujana Villas on Samui, nestled on a hillside above a private beach, played a key role during filming. With sleek modern design, panoramic views, and seamless indoor-outdoor living, these homes deliver that White Lotus fantasy. Perfectly positioned between the village of Choeng Mon and Chaweng, Samujana is blissfully secluded while remaining just minutes from the island's best beaches, restaurants, and vibrant entertainment.

Island Alternative: Koh Phangan's Laid-Back Luxury

If Samui feels too much in the spotlight, Koh Phangan offers a quieter take on island life. Just a short ferry ride from Samui, the island is now emerging as a serene yet sophisticated destination for property buyers. Think of it as Samui a few decades ago - with forested hills, secluded beaches and an evolving food and wellness scene.
