Lazudi's News: Future Transportation Network in Bangkok 2021

Great news for Bangkok! Thailand has recently extended Bangkok’s transport network to overcome traffic congestion within the city and nearby neighbourhoods. Let’s have a look at how far Bangkok has come with its transport network and review the progress of the upcoming stations in 2021!

  1. At the start of 2020, we have seen completion and currently running for the dark blue, green, and golden line of transportation in Bangkok. This year, we are on schedule to launch 3 new lines which are red, pink and yellow. The Red Line “Taling Chan – Bang Sue – Rangsit” connects the north and west of Bangkok. This line took 10 years of construction and is now completed while has been tested with a free trial from July-October 2020. Current fares from November 2020 onwards are at THB 15-50 depending on the distance of travel. This line consists of 10 stations (Bang Sue, Chatuchak, Wat Samian Nari, Bang Khen, Thung Song Hong, Lak Si, Kan Kheha, Don Mueang, Lak Hok, and Rangsit). The exciting news for people who love traveling within the city is that it connects to Don Mueang Airport so you don’t need to worry about leaving home hours and hours before to avoid traffic jams and missing your flight.
  2. The next line is the MRTA Pink Line “Khae-Rai – Min Buri” which will become the major east-west line for Northern Bangkok. This Line has begun construction in October 2020 and is now 66.05% completed. It is expected to be fully completed in 2022. This is exciting news for Bangkok concert lovers as the line will pass through Muang Thong Thani which will definitely help to reduce traffic jams and people trying to call taxis after concerts.
  3. The final line in construction since October 2020 is the MRTA Yellow Line “Ladprao – Samrong” extended from the Blue Line. This line consists of 23 stations in total heading East along Ladprao road to Bang Kapi Junction where it will interchange with MRT Orange Line and continuing South along Srinagarindra Road and connecting with the Airport Rail Link. The line will then head South past Suan Luang Rama 9 and then will travel West along Thepha Rak Road and terminating at Samrong station. This line is now 68% completed and is expected to be operational in 2022.

Both Pink and Yellow Lines will be tested in late 2021 and the fares are expected to cost roughly between THB 14-42.

It is exciting to see how far Bangkok transportation has evolved in the past years. Follow us at Lazudi to receive the latest news in Thailand!
