Effective 1 May 2022, the government introduces two new, more relaxed entry schemes specifically customised for vaccinated and unvaccinated international travellers. Read on for the details.
Fully Vaccinated Travellers
Fully vaccinated travellers arriving in Thailand from 1 May will no longer be required to show proof of a pre-arrival negative RT-PCR test nor undergo testing on arrival. Additionally, visitors will no longer need to show a SHA+ hotel booking.
Notably, fully vaccinated international travellers must register for and have a valid Thailand Pass (https://tp.consular.go.th/). This requires uploading of their COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate, proof of insurance coverage of no less than US$10,000 (reduced from US$20,000), and other required documentation.
On arrival in Thailand, they will be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere in the kingdom.
New Rules for Unvaccinated Travellers:
International travellers who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated have two options for entering the country. Under both options, they must still register for and have a valid Thailand Pass.
Option 1: With their Thailand Pass, upload proof of
- A negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of travel, along with required documents including passport, proof of insurance with at least 10,000 USD coverage for medical treatments in Thailand;
- If the above requirements are achieved, travellers will – like those fully vaccinated – be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere in the kingdom;
Option 2: With their Thailand Pass, upload proof of
- Required documents including passport, confirmed and paid Alternative Quarantine (AQ) hotel for five days (which includes the cost of one RT-PCR test for days 4-5);
- Attach proof of insurance with at least 10,000 USD coverage for medical treatments in Thailand;
- Achieve a negative RT-PCR test on days 4 – 5 in Thailand of their mandatory 5-day AQ quarantine;
NOTE: Travelers who have already been approved to enter Thailand under the AQ scheme but wish to enter Thailand under Option 1 (exemption from quarantine) must re-apply on Thailand Pass.
NOTE: Registration for the Thailand Pass starts on 29 April 2022 (00.01 hrs Thailand Time) under these new relaxed requirements.
Further good news for domestic tourists heading to Phuket. Starting from 1 May 2022 onwards, those travelling to Phuket by land, sea, or air can enter the island without having to show evidence of vaccination or Covid-19 test results.
Government advice remains that vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers strictly follow health and safety standards in Thailand. Travellers who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms should get tested. If testing positive, they must obtain the appropriate medical treatment.
These new easing of restrictions are proof, Thailand is open and ready to welcome you!
